Every week i am looking forward to my Japanese lessons with Rie-せんせい.
I have progressed so much since i started 9months ago.
She adapts the lessons to her student’s needs and makes it a fun but nonetheless challenging experience. She also shares some information about Japanese culture, which is always interesting.
Definitely recommend if you are looking to learn or improve your Japanese.
Rie is a very kind teacher I enjoy our sessions and have improved a lot thanks to her. She makes our lessons fun and is really supportive which has made me more confident in my abilities coming up to my school exams. She caters the sessions to what you need help on the most and is very organised always sending notes with the vocabulary we went over after the lesson and preparing content in advance.

It’s been an entire year since I started to learn Japanese with Rie and I always enjoy learning it! Rie is an informative, kind and eager teacher who clearly shows her love for Japanese and personalizes her lessons every week. She will make sure that your learning capacities are met and will help you if you get stuck along the way! She also will help you especially if you want to take the JLPT exams! I highly recommend her if you want to get started with your Japanese or want a push in the right direction!
Rie is a fantastic teacher for students of any level. She tailors her teaching to your speed, and focuses on the outcome you want from your learning – whether that’s to do well at NCEA, sit a JLPT, or give you the conversational skills to travel or live in Japan. I have enjoyed my lessons with Rie so much and my Japanese skill has improved immensely. I highly recommend Rie for anyone looking to learn or brush up on their Japanese.
Rie sensei is the best teacher ever who is kind, attentive, and honest with her work. She ensures that I always know what I am doing and takes the initiative to clarify my doubts even before I know I even had them. Sensei always makes every lesson fun and exciting to attend and helpfully explains things from a new perspective that I wouldn’t have had, which helps me to understand things better. She relates different concepts together and helps me make connections between different structures, words, and kanji all the time! She helps me not only improve on the reading and writing knowledge I need to pass my exams but the wider world concepts like speaking, listening, and cultural aspects too so that I can actually be able to put my knowledge into practice in the real world.

Rie has been my tutor for over a year now and her teaching has allowed me to greatly and consistently improve my Japanese.
I had self-taught/studied a lot in the past and struggled to move forward on my own. Rie has been able to identify the gaps in my learning without having to spend the time going through the things I already knew.

I decided to learn Japanese after my own self learning and was perplexed about where to start and whether it was even possible not being in a school environment. I’ve now had the pleasure of learning with Rie for almost 6 months now, and it has regularly been one of the things I look forward to during the week. The lessons are engaging, practical and they contain useful context that only a native speaker would know.
I’ve progressed from knowing basic greetings to being able to comfortably converse in simple and fundamental terms, with Japanese speakers commonly telling me that I have great pronunciation and grammar. I think it’s really a testament to Rie-san’s tutoring process.
I cannot rate Rie-san high enough really, and I highly recommend her to any prospective Japanese language learner or current student. ありがとう

Rie takes her time explaining each part of the grammar we are learning and provides helpful insights and cultural notes that help put the language in the context of everyday conversation. She is knowledgeable, professional, and incredibly encouraging. I definitely could not make the same progress alone with just a textbook. Thank you so much, Rie!
ujwala puli29 February 2024Excellent Japanese Language Teacher, my son needed help with the language as part of his school subject. He joined the school in term 3 and had to learn a whole new language and cover the whole syllabus for the year. Rie when asked for help jumped right in and helped my son score 85+ in the end of year exam. Very supportive and helpful. Goes extra length and provides excellent material and home works. Exactly what we needed in crisis. Thank you Rie

Emily Bisset12 July 2023I found Rie-sensei after searching online for tutors and liked the flexibility option of learning online and in person because I live outside of Auckland. I want to improve my Japanese so that I can speak with my Japanese friends and learning with Rie-sensei is so exciting! I used to live in Japan and every lesson I learn something that makes me think back to my time there and go “oh! That makes sense now!” I have tried self studying but really had trouble grasping grammar points but Rie-sensei explains in a way that makes sense straight away. She has tailored the lessons to fit my learning style and pace which keeps me motivated. Highly recommend for people at any level of learning - you’ll have lots of fun and the learning will feel all the easier for it 😊
