I had been using apps and trying to teach myself, but once I connected with Rei-sensei, I finally had a clear plan and a structured way to learn. I enjoy the progress each week, and it helps me understand the areas I still need to practise more.
I’m excited to keep learning as much as I can as I count down to my third trip to Japan. Rei-sensei teaches with so much patience and care. Some days I feel slow or tired after work, but it always feels like a safe and supportive space, and I always learn something new. I’m so pleased to have this support. I highly recommend these classes
I was learning Japanese by myself for around a year and made less than ideal progress, in only a couple months of lessons with Tim-sensei, I’ve seen a vast improvement in my Japanese knowledge. Can’t recommend them enough, they’re an amazing tutoring service!
Rie is a wonderful sensei. I really look forward to my weekly lessons with her. She puts a lot of thought and effort into each lesson. Rie is always very encouraging and makes me want to learn more. She is also very happy to adapt lessons to suit my needs, for instance focusing on conversation topics before trips to Japan. I highly recommend learning Japanese with Rie.

Rie is a fantastic tutor! I have found the lessons incredibly helpful in my understanding of the Japanese language. Rie takes her time explaining each part of the grammar we are learning and provides helpful insights and cultural notes that help put the language in the context of everyday conversation. I recently started with Japanese Tutor NZ after a recent visit to Japan. They have been professional and i am enjoying my time. From textbook to having conversations with the tutor is a good mix for learning. Also at the end of each lesson all the work you have covered is written down which makes it easy to revise.
If you are intending on learning Japanese i would highly suggest their services. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with them.

It’s been an entire year since I started to learn Japanese with Rie and I always enjoy learning it! Rie is an informative, kind and eager teacher who clearly shows her love for Japanese and personalizes her lessons every week. She will make sure that your learning capacities are met and will help you if you get stuck along the way! She also will help you especially if you want to take the JLPT exams! I highly recommend her if you want to get started with your Japanese or want a push in the right direction!
Rie sensei is the best teacher ever who is kind, attentive, and honest with her work. She ensures that I always know what I am doing and takes the initiative to clarify my doubts even before I know I even had them. Sensei always makes every lesson fun and exciting to attend and helpfully explains things from a new perspective that I wouldn’t have had, which helps me to understand things better. She relates different concepts together and helps me make connections between different structures, words, and kanji all the time! She helps me not only improve on the reading and writing knowledge I need to pass my exams but the wider world concepts like speaking, listening, and cultural aspects too so that I can actually be able to put my knowledge into practice in the real world.
Rie is an excellent teacher. She is incredibly patient and kind and tailors her lessons to my needs. Highly recommend her as a teacher!

Rie is an awesome tutor who is understanding and flexible. I work full-time and study Japanese purely out of interest – it really helps me to keep going when she let’s me go at my own pace. I don’t feel pressured, but I still want to do well because of her!

She adapts the lessons to her student’s needs and makes it a fun but nonetheless challenging experience. She also shares some information about Japanese culture, which is always interesting.

Rie is a very kind teacher I enjoy our sessions and have improved a lot thanks to her. She makes our lessons fun and is really supportive which has made me more confident in my abilities coming up to my school exams. She caters the sessions to what you need help on the most and is very organised always sending notes with the vocabulary we went over after the lesson and preparing content in advance.

Rie is a fantastic teacher for students of any level. She tailors her teaching to your speed, and focuses on the outcome you want from your learning – whether that’s to do well at NCEA, sit a JLPT, or give you the conversational skills to travel or live in Japan. I decided to learn Japanese after my own self learning and was perplexed about where to start and whether it was even possible not being in a school environment. I’ve now had the pleasure of learning with Rie for almost 6 months now, and it has regularly been one of the things I look forward to during the week. The lessons are engaging, practical and they contain useful context that only a native speaker would know.
I’ve progressed from knowing basic greetings to being able to comfortably converse in simple and fundamental terms, with Japanese speakers commonly telling me that I have great pronunciation and grammar. I think it’s really a testament to Rie-san’s tutoring process.
I cannot rate Rie-san high enough really, and I highly recommend her to any prospective Japanese language learner or current student. ありがとう
